What does condensation on your home’s windows mean?

Throughout the years, you have experienced condensation in your home. Most people experience it almost every day when they take a shower, but what happens when condensation starts appearing on your windows? The first two questions you need to ask are why is condensation appearing on my new windows and whether or not that condensation is on the inside or outside of your window.

Condensation happens as a result of high humidity. Air with higher humidity is filled with more moisture and when high humidity air meets a cold surface, such as your window in the middle of winter, the temperature of the water vapor cools to turn the gas back into a liquid. This process usually is relatively harmless though it can still be annoying.

External condensation is probably the one to worry about the least due to there being little you can do about it. It usually only lasts for a short time, mostly in the morning, and then your windows return to normal.

Internal condensation is also normal, but it could mean a couple more things. Internal condensation can happen from simple activities like cooking or drying clothes. It can also mean that there is poor ventilation in your home or just that you need to open a window to let the air circulate better. It could also mean that a seal was done improperly. Check to see if all your windows have condensation on them, and if they do it means there is just poor humidity.

With new windows comes excellent seals, and excellent seals will show you the difference in humidity from the inside to the outside. Condensation is a part of everyday life and as long as it is happening everywhere, your windows are still in great shape!
